This manuscript map of Charleston Harbor dated 1861 is a hand drawn pen and ink with watercolor wash. The unknown mapmaker chose to decorate his map with flags of the State of South Carolina and of the “Confederation.” Navigation channels, the City of Charleston, Mount Pleasant, James Island, Morris Island with its lighthouse, Sullivan’s Island, Ft. Moultrie, Castle Pinckney, and Ft. Sumter are all carefully figured.
